General Assembly 2025 – report

Activity report 2024 to 2025:

  • Digitally Aware Election Series, in partnership with ISOC and the Brussels School of Governance (May & June 2024)
  • Ukraine: Internet in the conditions of war, in the European Parliament (Europe Station), about Internet Resilience and disinformation
  • Encryption : Global Encryption Day, including workshop given in the European Parliament, together with ISOC and Mozilla
  • Contact with Belgian MEP about Human Rights and encryption, CSAM (Child and Sexual Abuse Material) and Post-Quantum Cryptography
  • Answer to an EU Survey on Internet Governance
  • Participation to Internet Pulse Functional Analysis. Next proposed: creation of an “Internet Ranking” for each country, based on the Passport Index
  • New Year Reception 2025 and Internet Award
  • Computers given for the society, with Digital for Youth
  • Participation to ICANN and ISOC global events
  • isTrust advocacy, notably CENTR Jamboree

Presentation of activities and financial status of our association

  • Not disclosed publicly, but exposed to members – we had a difficult year in 2024, as funds from ISOC came late (28.12.2024); an unused part is to be reimbursed to ISOC;
  • Discharge to current Board (vote) : discharge given at unanimity of people present

Election of new Board 2025-2028 (vote)

It’s a pleasure to communicate you the result of the elections of the Board of the Internet Society Chapter Belgium for the next 3 years term (mid 2025 – mid 2028). Elections were held on May 28th during the Annual General Assembly, and on Thursday June 12th 2025, the newly elected Board attributed the roles:

  • Claire Pershan, Board Member
  • Eric Tomson, Secretary
  • Frans Gerbosch, Treasurer
  • Frédéric Taes, President until 25.10.2025
  • Johannes Schnack, President as from 25.10.2025
  • Liubomir Nikiforov, Board Member

We are pleased to have 2 new young active members in the Board :

  • Claire Pershan being EU Advocacy Lead at The Mozilla Foundation, and previously Policy Coordinator at EU DisInfoLab (home for disinformation activists and experts)
  • Liubomir Nikiforov, PhD Researcher in Law & Technology and Executive Team Member at Brussels Privacy Hub, an Academic Privacy Research Centre

We would like to thank Nadia Tjaha for her involvement to the Internet community over the past years, in our Chapter as Board Member, as Coordinator of YouthDIG (Youth Dialogue on Internet Governance), active at EURODIG, .EU day, and much more.

Many projects are in the pipeline of our Chapter

  • a new version of our free open source isTrust tool to contibute fighting phishing and DNS Abuse (see teaser previous version on https://istrust.org/teaser/teaser-v0.8.mp4)
  • an event on the place of women in IT and the Internet, in collaboration with NAM-IP Computer Museum (https://nam-ip.be) and other partners as University/Schools
  • the first National Internet Governance Forum (National IGF) in Belgium
  • continuing our advocacy work for Human Rights as privacy thanks to strong encryption, with an alternative path to address Child Sexual Abuse Material issues
  • … many others to come with the newly elected Board
